They have long wiry hair which is exactly why a lot of people are curious about if they are hypoallergenic.

What Does Hypoallergenic Mean?

Hypoallergenic means that these dogs do not cause allergies in people who are allergic to other breeds of dogs or cats. It also means that these dogs will not shed as much as some other breeds of dogs.

The breed standard states that the coat should be soft and fine, but it should never be too short. The coat should be thick enough so that the undercoat is covered by the outer coat. The coat should be free of mats and tangles.

This means that these kinds of dogs do not shed as much and are less prone to allergens.

What is the History of the Spinone Italiano?

This breed was developed in Italy during the 1800s from Wirehaired Dachshunds. They were originally used as hunting dogs, but later on they became popular as pet dogs. In the early 1900s, there were no laws regarding the breeding of purebred dogs.

People started crossing different types of dogs together and creating new breeds.

There were a lot of cross-breeds being created at this time because people wanted to get rid of the old traditional breeds.

Some of these cross-breeds included the Spitz, Pekingese, Chihuahua, Lhasa Apso, Shih Tzu, Maltese, Toy Poodle, Yorkshire Terrier, Cocker Spaniel, Pomeranian, Beagle, Bichon Frisé, Pekinese, Chow Chow, Dalmatian, Bulldog and others. All of these breeds were created by combining two different breeds together.

In the late 1940s, the first Spinone Italiano was born. He was named “Giovanni” after Giovanni Falcone, an Italian judge who had been murdered by the Mafia. His owner loved him dearly, and he lived with her until she passed away.

In the 1950s, the breed was officially registered in America and Canada. By 1960, the American Kennel Club (AKC) accepted the breed into its registry. The AKC decided that the name Spinone Italiano was more appropriate than the original name of Wirehaired Dachshund.

The AKC changed the name to Spinone Italiano.

By 1970, the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) approved the breed and gave them full recognition. The AVMA has strict standards for the breed and requires that the dogs must be able to pass all tests before they are allowed to become official members of the breed.

By 1990, the United States government had given them full recognition. Since then, the breed has grown tremendously in popularity. Today, there are over 100,000 Spinone Italianos living in the U.S. alone.

How Do You Train a Spinone Italiano?

Spinone Italiano puppies learn very quickly how to follow commands. They love to please their owners and want to learn everything that they teach them. They are smart, affectionate, loving, loyal and friendly. They are easy to train and eager to learn.

They are good with children and other animals. They are very obedient and can easily adapt to any type of training. Their coats grow out fast, so they need regular grooming sessions.

They have a high energy level and require lots of exercise. They like to run around and play fetch. They also enjoy playing tug-of-war and chasing balls or toys. They will chase anything that moves and will go crazy if they see something moving in front of them.

They are very protective of their families and homes. If someone tries to break into your home, they will bark loudly and alert the family. They are excellent watchdogs and will protect their families.

What is the Lifespan of a Spinone Italiano Dog?

The average life expectancy of a Spinone Italian is 12 years. However, some live longer than 15 years. They are not known to suffer from many health problems. They do tend to develop hip dysplasia and heart disease.

These diseases are common among most large dogs.

Do They Shed?

Yes. When it comes to shedding, Spinone Italianos are similar to other long hair breeds. Their coat sheds once every month. They should be brushed daily to keep the coat looking clean and shiny. It is best to brush them using a soft bristle brush. You may use a slicker brush if you prefer.

Are Spinone Italiano Dogs Hypoallergenic?

These dogs are not hypoallergenic. This is because they are wiry-haired, and they shed a lot more than dogs with short hair. The Spinone Italiano sheds moderately and produces a lot of dander. Dander is flakes of skin or dust in animal or human fur and skin, and it can cause allergic reactions.

What are Spinone Italianos Like?

Spinone Italiano dogs are patient, loving, and even-tempered. They are also very friendly and love to play with other pets. They are easygoing and calm, but if they become too energetic, they might do something destructive.

They need regular exercise and attention. They are great companions and make wonderful family dogs. They love people and are always ready to give kisses. They are intelligent and know what they are doing. They are gentle giants who are happy to meet new friends.

Are Spinone Italianos Easy to Look After?

Spinone Italianos are very easy to care for. They are active and playful all day, but they are also very quiet at night when they are sleeping. They don’t need much sleep, but they do need a place where they can relax and get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

They are happiest when they have plenty of space to run around and play.

They are very independent and self-sufficient. They are fine with being left alone as long as they have food and water. They are also very tolerant of other pets. They are usually friendly towards other dogs, cats, and birds. They are not aggressive towards these animals unless provoked.

Final Thoughts

If you want a big dog that is loyal, affectionate, and full of fun, then the Spinone Italiano is definitely one of the top choices. However, they are not hypoallergenic dogs. We hope this article is helpful.
